Introducing the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne

Having undergone careful renovation in the 90s, today the 483-seater Tivoli Theatre shows both films and live stage shows. With everything from ballet to live music, their varied programme brings a wide variety of entertainment to the town… it’s a must during your visit! Fully equipped with both a bar and café, it’s also a particularly beautiful building, featuring lovely Art Deco features such as original chrome and Bakelite door handles.

History of Wimborne’s Tivoli Theatre

Originally built in 1936, the Tivoli has withstood its fair share of excitement during the years, including a threat of demolition in 1979 for a new road scheme. Having closed in the 1980s, the theatre remained important to the community and money was raised to reopen in it in 1993, when volunteers supplied their time and effort to return it to its original glory. Today it is carefully maintained by a team of volunteers, allowing locals and visitors alike to enjoy all manner of films and productions.

A top Wimborne venue for live bands

From tribute acts to classical music and household names, you might be surprised at the number of musicians who play at the Tivoli. With space for just under 500 people, it’s an intimate venue which could provide you with a chance to get up close to your favourite artists. Several acts look forward to playing the Tivoli as a warm-up before they visit the UK’s larger venues.

Bringing cinema to Wimborne: Films at the Tivoli

The theatre is also a favourite for locals hoping to catch the latest films. Despite it’s traditional feel, the Tivoli has a high-quality projection system with full surround sound, providing a fantastic cinematic experience. As well as the newest releases, they also show a good selection of classic and vintage films, so you can enjoy a step back in time during your visit.

If you’re thinking of paying a visit, you’ll be pleased to know that the theatre is within easy reach of several of Wimborne’s main car parks, with the majority having free parking after 6pm. There’s also a nearby taxi rank and plenty of local bars and restaurants, so you can really enjoy a pleasant evening out.
